Youth exchange

“In the Wild” is an outdoor youth exchange that took place in the Samtkhe-Javakheti region of Georgia in the period from 1 to 9 July 2017. The project brought together 30 young people from 6 countries in order to promote a style of healthy life and develop the positive attitude of living responsibly in nature.

The exchange environment has been living together for a week in Borjomi National Park, involving participants in building and maintaining an outdoor camp in a wild natural environment. During the 6 days of outdoor activities and 2 days of indoor activities, young people, with the help of leaders, have run an outdoor camp in the wild and experienced a sustainable and healthy way of life. The most challenging challenges were to cook local organic foods, alone, outdoors, on fire, and trekking and orienteering in adverse weather conditions. Discussing each step in the key of respectful coexistence with the natural environment around them. One of the results of the youth exchange was a “Book of Recipes and Tips” prepared and designed by the participants based on their outdoor cooking experience.

The youth exchange program was clearly based on Learning by Doing, inspired by the principles of outdoor education, experiential learning and non-formal education. The natural environment is part of the process and adds value to the learning of the participants, improving the internalization of skills and their direct applications in practice.
